Grass Hay and/or Pasture is the preferred source for bulk, fiber and roughage. Grass hay is preferred over legume hay. Alfalfa, a legume, contains excess calcium and crude protein and is best not to feed at more than one-third of diet. Hay extenders can be utilized if necessary. Pasture horses or horses consuming only hay can be hand fed Barn Bag®. |
|
Oats in their natural state (not rolled, crimped, or ground) are the preferred source for the calorie/energy feed group. Whole oats retain their nutrient quality for a longer storage life. Regulate body condition, or weight, by increasing or decreasing the the amount of energy or whole oats given. Calorie extenders such as vegetable oils may be used if necessary to further increase the caloric density of the diet. |
Benefits of feeding whole oats as a source of energy* Oats are highly digestible, palatable, often locally grown, and are typically less expensive than compounded all-in-one feeds. |
Good nutrition results in a less nervous horseThe Barn Bag™ Pleasure and Performance Horse Pelleted Feed Concentrate will supply the nutrients required for efficient activity and performance without the nervousness associated with the poor quality protein and nutrients found in many other feeding programs. Additional benefits include improved feed efficiency and the assurance that nutrients are available for tissue recovery following injury. |
Simplified Feeding Time! The Barn Bag™ pellets are given at feeding time. The pellets, along with the grain, hay or pasture, provide the horse's daily requirement of nutrients excluding energy and salt. Caloric energy needs vary widely between individuals and activity levels. Calories are provided by feeding oats, and vegetable oil as needed. The horse also needs free choice loose salt (not mineral blocks) and fresh water. |
